What Is Silicone Extrusion?

Silicone extrusion is a manufacturing process used to create continuous lengths of silicone rubber profiles with a consistent cross-sectional shape. During extrusion, uncured silicone compound is pushed through a die (a specialised tool that shapes the material) and then cured (usually with heat) to set its final form.

This method is ideal for producing flexible, durable components such as tubing, seals, gaskets, cords and weatherstrips. Because silicone can withstand extreme temperatures, UV exposure and chemical cleaning agents, extruded silicone products are widely used across industries including food and beverage, medical, automotive and construction.

Some Common Silicone Extrusion Profiles

Solid Round Cord

Versatile and used across a wide range of sealing and gasketing applications.

Hollow O-Ring Cord

Lightweight and compressible, offering effective sealing with reduced material use

Square & Rectangular Cord

Suitable for general-purpose sealing, gasketing, and spacing.

T-Section

Used as a divider or joining profile between materials, or to seal gaps between panels.

P-Section

L Profile

Named for its distinctive bulb-and-stem shape, tadpole profiles are commonly used as high-performance sealing gaskets. The bulb compresses to form a tight seal while the tail anchors the profile in place. Ideal for oven doors, hatches, enclosures and other high-temperature or pressure-sensitive environments.
