Silclear’s Production Supervisor, Charlie Smith, is once again taking part in the annual Lymington Remembrance Walk – a charity event covering more than 21 kilometres and visiting multiple memorial locations across the New Forest.
The Lymington Remembrance Walk, also known as the Poppy Walk, began in 2020 when Covid-19 restrictions limited traditional Remembrance Day services. Determined to honour veterans despite the circumstances, Charlie decided to visit as many local memorials as possible while raising money for veterans’ charities.
What started as a solo effort quickly grew into a community tradition. Over the years, the walk has drawn growing numbers of participants and raised thousands for causes such as the Royal British Legion, Pilgrim Bandits, and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity supporting bereaved military children and young people.
Now in its sixth year, the group aims to reach a remarkable £20,000 in total fundraising since the walk began. Last year alone, donations reached over £5,500 – a testament to the dedication of Charlie and everyone who joins and supports the event.
“Thanks to everyone in the community who continues to support the walk,” Charlie said. “Lest We Forget”
This year’s walk once again covers over 21km, beginning at Milford Memorial Hospital and stopping at Keyhaven, St Mark’s Pennington, Boldre memorial hall, South Baddesley memorial, Boldre Church and finally the Lymington memorial for the 11am service.
